Sacramento– Assembly Republican Whip, Devon J. Mathis (R-Porterville), announced today that Governor Newsom has signed his bill, Assembly Bill (AB) 1762, into law. This bill authorizes a nonprofit organization representing Gold Start families to build a monument to the Gold Star Families of California on the grounds of the California State Capitol.
Sacramento– Today, Assembly Republican Whip, Devon J. Mathis (R-Porterville), announced that Governor Newsom has signed his bill, Assembly Bill (AB) 1923, into law. This bill requires the Superintendent of Public Instruction to prioritize proposals for new partnership academies in a manner that addresses the participation of pupils traditionally underrepresented in career technical education or science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs or professions.
Sacramento– Today, Assembly Republican Whip, Devon J. Mathis (R-Porterville), issued the following statements regarding the Assembly Public Safety Committee’s refusal to pass AB 2017, Kelsey’s Law: “I am outraged by the misguided decision of the Assembly Public Safety Committee Chairman to oppose, and ultimately kill Kelsey’s Law,” said Mathis. “This common-sense, bipartisan bill would have given our children with intellectual disabilities a fair voice in the courtroom. Instead, the Chair has unilaterally ruled that these children should be subjected to repeated trauma and interrogation while on the witness stand. I am repulsed by this lack of humanity.”
Sacramento– Today, Assembly Republican Whip, Devon Mathis (R-Porterville), issued the following statements regarding the passage of AB 2223 from the Assembly Health Committee: “I am extremely disgusted by the actions of the Assembly Health Committee in supporting this grotesque bill,” said Mathis. “This measure is sickening and it astounds me that we’re even considering it.” This bill, among other things, repeals existing law requiring coroners to investigate deaths related to suspected self-induced or criminal abortions.  Further, it completely immunizes pregnant persons and abortion providers for all "pregnancy-related" deaths, including post-birth death.
