Leg Year - 2019-2020
Recognizes June 12, 2019, as the 121st Anniversary of Philippine Independence, in honor of the multitude of contributions that Filipino Americans have made to make this a better country and state for all people. Calls upon the people of the state to observe the month of June with appropriate ceremonies, programs, and activities.
Recognizes August 15, 2019, as India’s Independence Day, and urges all Californians to join in celebrating India’s independence.
Proclaims the week of September 23-29, 2019, as Diaper Need Awareness Week and encourages Californians to support organizations that help alleviate diaper need.
Designates and commemorates October 20, 2019, and each 20th day of October hereafter, as Leyte Landing Commemoration Day. Honors the significant contributions to California made by generations of Filipino Americans since that time.
Urges the President to stop any efforts to reinterpret, disregard, or in any way prohibit the extension of the 2008 United States-Vietnam repatriation agreement and urges that any renegotiation of the agreement include historically accepted deportation protections for Vietnamese refugees. States that the Legislature stands in solidarity with the Vietnamese refugees.
Requests that Congress and the President of the United States immediately take action to increase the maximum annual amount of the federal Pell Grant Program award from $6,195 to at least $7,500 to further help low-income college students alleviate the burden of postsecondary education debt.
Urges the United States Congress to add the State of California to the Nutria Eradication and Control Act of 2003 and to authorize an appropriation of $4,000,000 to help the state implement a nutria eradication program.
Recognizes the contributions and benefits of the Special Olympics and calls for continued support and recognition of the Special Olympics.
Designates the year 2019 as "State of California Year of Commemoration of the Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide of 1925-1923" and designates April 24, 2019, as "State of California Day of Commemoration of the 104th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1923." Calls upon the President to work toward equitable, constructive, stable, and durable Armenian-Turkish relations and calls upon the President and Congress to formally and consistently reaffirm that the atrocities committed against the Armenian people constituted genocide.
Proclaims January 2019 as Human Trafficking Awareness Month in California in order to encourage greater awareness of human trafficking within the State of California, the United States of America, and internationally.
Declares the month of October 2019 as German American Heritage Month and October 6, 2019, as German American Heritage Day in honor of the multitude of contributions that German Americans have made to make this a better country and state for all people. Calls upon the people of the state to observe the month of October with appropriate ceremonies, programs, and activities.
Recognizes February 1, 2019, as Wear Red Day in California, and urges all citizens to show their support for women and the fight against heart disease by commemorating this day by wearing the color red. Recognizes the month of February 2019 as American Heart Month in order to raise awareness of the importance of the ongoing fight against heart disease and stroke.
Designates the month of November 2019 as Military and Veteran Appreciation Month to honor the sacrifices that have been made by honorable men and women in our nation through their service to this great nation and our great state.
Proclaims February 7, 2019, as Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day in California in order to encourage greater awareness, education, community engagement, and treatment among black communities.
Declares the first Wednesday in February as California Girls and Women in Sports Day to acknowledge and recognize girls and women in sports. Calls upon all teachers, school administrators, community policymakers, and leaders to collaboratively review current policies and practices to ensure equity in sports programs and activities in California.
