Proclaims March 8-12, 2021, as School Breakfast Week. Recognizes the critical role of school nutrition programs to help provide nutritious food for children who have been facing heightened food insecurity, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic; and the invaluable service of school nutrition staff who have worked tirelessly to help children in their communities access food despite unprecedented challenges. Highlights the benefits of school-provided meals.
Proclaims every third week of May as “Roxie’s Wish: Drowning Prevention Week for Children” in order to encourage counties, cities, and school districts to support national goals. Encourages counties, cities, and school districts to adopt codes and standards to prevent drowning and to engage in and encourage public awareness campaign. Raises awareness about the risk of drowning, especially for children, and efforts to prevent it.
This measure would designate the highway overcrossing in the City of Visalia off Plaza Drive and California State Route 198 at postmile R4.796 as the Harry Tow Memorial Highway Overcrossing. The measure would request the Department of Transportation to determine the cost of appropriate signs showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources covering the cost, to erect those signs.
Recognizes the skills and dedication of direct support professionals, and shows appreciation for the direct support professionals who have faithfully served Californians with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) during the COVID-19 public health crisis. Calls attention to the importance of caring for those with IDD.
Proclaims May 2021 as Lyme Disease Awareness Month. Raises awareness about the condition.
Designates October 2021 to be Women’s Small Business Month and encourages all citizens to recognize the economic importance of women’s small businesses in California. Highlights the growth of women-owned businesses.
Proclaims March 2021 as American Red Cross Month and dedicates it to all those who continue to advance Clara Barton’s noble legacy. Encourages all Californians to reach out, support the organization’s humanitarian mission, and join in their commitment to care for people in need. Celebrates the important work of American Red Cross volunteers.
Proclaims March 2021 as Arts Education Month and encourages all educational communities to celebrate the arts with meaningful pupil activities and programs that demonstrate learning and understanding in the visual and performing arts. Emphasizes the importance of the arts in California children's education.
Acknowledges the onset of Ramadan and expresses the Legislature's deepest respect to Muslims across California and throughout the world on this significant occasion, in observance of and out of respect for the commencement of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting and spiritual renewal. Highlights the contributions of Muslims in the history of the United States and honors this sacred period.
Proclaims April 2021 as California Wines: Down to Earth Month, to celebrate the sustainable leadership of California wineries and winegrape growers throughout the month of April. Emphasizes the importance of sustainable viticulture practices.
Commemorates October 24, 2021, as the 150th Anniversary of the Chinese Massacre of 1871, one of the most significant incidences of racially motivated violence in California history. Commemorates this day as a means of fostering awareness about this incident in an effort to promote inclusiveness, tolerance, and unity, while recognizing and appreciating the priceless contributions individuals from all backgrounds, including immigrants, make to the greatness of the United States and especially to our great state, California. Encourages social harmony in the face of past and present bigotry.
Proclaims April 8, 2021, as “California Holocaust Memorial Day,” and urges Californians to observe this day of remembrance for victims of the Holocaust in an appropriate manner. Honors the victims of the Holocaust and those who worked to liberate them, such that we never forget or repeat the hate-borne tragedy.
Proclaims August 2021 as Valley Fever Awareness Month. Aims to bring awareness to Valley Fever, a respiratory disease with no current cure.
Declares June 2021 as Portuguese Heritage Month. Recognizes the contributions of Portuguese Americans.
Proclaims April of each year as BeeWhere Month. Recognizes and honors those leaders who established the BeeWhere program. Makes Californians aware of the buzz about bees in the state.
